{"id":444,"date":"2019-09-18T15:57:45","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T15:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/live-scenicamerica.pantheonsite.io\/seaside-road-in-south-jersey-benefits-from-local-couples-efforts\/"},"modified":"2023-04-13T14:40:51","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T14:40:51","slug":"seaside-road-in-south-jersey-benefits-from-local-couples-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scenic.org\/2019\/09\/18\/seaside-road-in-south-jersey-benefits-from-local-couples-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"Seaside road in south Jersey benefits from local couple&#8217;s efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A digital billboard that kept neighbors awake and blighted a southern New Jersey seaside roadway\u00a0has been taken down\u00a0thanks to the determination of one local couple.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 2px 5px; border: 1px solid #000000; float: right;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/margate-21.gif\" alt=\"inline_343_\/storage\/gifs\/margate-2.gif\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" \/>As part of the settlement of the lengthy and expensive legal battle, the company that put up the Margate Causeway billboard has agreed to never operate a digital billboard along the bayside strip again.\u00a0In addition, the owner of the property where the billboard stood has signed a deed covenant that will permanently ban any new billboard from being built at the site, and no existing billboards along the causeway can be enlarged or converted to digital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In exchange, Richard and Deborah Levitt, the couple who successfully sued to take down the sign, won&#8217;t seek to make the company pay their outstanding legal bill, which exceeds $200,000.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">&#8220;The Levitts are to be comendended for their courage and determination in seeing that this digital blight went away,&#8221; said Mary Tracy, president of Scenic America and a part-time resident of the Jersey Shore. \u00a0&#8220;All of us in the area are thankful for the Levitt&#8217;s willingness to take on this issue and emerging victorious.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A digital billboard that kept neighbors awake and blighted a southern New Jersey seaside roadway\u00a0has been taken down\u00a0thanks to the determination of one local couple.
